Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) is a hydrophilic linear polymer that forms a copolymer of vinyl alcohol. Therefore, the structural properties of polyvinyl alcohol polymers depend on the degree of polymerization and hydrolysis. These changes lead to chemical and physical modifications, such as esterification, etherification, crystallization, and ion-polymer complexation in polymers. The modified PVOH structure can be used in biomedical applications.
